Ovum undertook an independent assessment of the National Programme for IT (NPfIT) in January 2005, in order to quantify its benefits.

The aim of the NPfIT is to deliver a new integrated IT infrastructure for the NHS in England. The management of this IT procurement, deployment and operation has a high public profile and therefore the programme is under intense scrutiny to justify its means.

The NPfIT asked Ovum to report on the procurement process and deliver an independent view of its activities.
