London Programme for IT Southern Programme for IT NME Programme for IT

Accountability for the delivery of National Programme for IT (NPfIT) transferred to strategic health authorities (SHAs) on 1 April 2007, as part of the NPfIT Local Ownership Programme (NLOP).

NHS Connecting for Health has been working closely with the 10 strategic health authorities (SHAs) to help with the transition and the subsequent transfer of activities.

These activities were previously carried out by the former NHS CFH Clusters. SHA Chief Information Officers and their teams have been fully involved throughout the process.

To ensure relationships with Local Service Providers (LSPs) continue effectively, NHS Programme for IT Management Boards have been established in three geographic areas to:

  • act as a forum for Chief Executive discussion and decision making, in line with the SHA mandate and provide strategic direction within a defined geographic area
  • ensure a joined-up approach in implementing NPfIT across constituent SHAs
  • ensure the effective engagement of NHS CFH and other key regional stakeholders.

Programmes for IT

The National Programme for IT operates in England and the country is split into three Programmes for IT, each of which is hosted by the SHAs and has a Local Service Provider (LSP).

There are 10 SHAs in England and they are represented in the three Programmes for IT.

London Programme for IT

The London Programme for IT has one SHA - NHS London.

North, Midlands and East (NME) Programme for IT

The North, Midlands and East (NME) Programme for IT has six SHAs - East Midlands SHA, East of England SHA, North East SHA, North West SHA, West Midlands SHA and Yorkshire and Humber SHA.

Southern Programme for IT

The Southern Programme for IT has three SHAs - South Central SHA, South East Coast SHA and South West SHA.
