The functions of the CRDB have been taken over by a new body, the National Information Governance Board for Health and Social Care (NIGB).

The Care Record Development Board (CRDB) brought together patients and service users, the public, and social and healthcare professionals within a single forum that helped to set the new model for care. It worked with the NHS National Programme for IT (NPfIT) to enable sharing of information, scheduling and processes across traditional boundaries.

The Board was chaired by Harry Cayton, the Chief Executive of the Council for Healthcare Regulatory Excellence, and previously the National Director for Patients and the Public in the Department of Health.

The 2007 Care Record Guarantee

The NHS Care Record Guarantee sets out the rules that will govern information held in the NHS Care Records Service. This will form an important part of the public information campaign about NHS Care Records. The NHS Care Record Guarantee has been drawn up by the Care Record Development Board (CRDB) and is reviewed at least every twelve months as the NHS Care Records Service develops.

Information Governance review

The National Programme Board asked Harry Cayton, the National Director for Patients and the Public and Chair of the Care Record Development Board, to carry out a high level review of Information Governance in the Department of Health and the wider NHS.
