Where has CAP come from?

The Common Assurance Process (CAP) replaced the 'NHS CFH Compliance' scheme, which was initiated in 2004 to support connection of third-party IT systems to the Spine. It also replaced the Requirements for Accreditation Scheme for GP systems previously operated by the NHS Information Authority.

Whilst CAP builds upon these two schemes it also encompasses the key principles of the local service provider (LSP) and national application service provider (NASP) assurance approaches to provide a common standard for quality and safety.

CAP is applicable for all releases not being delivered as part of an LSP or NASP contract. This includes releases provided by suppliers under the GP Systems of Choice Framework Agreement.
