Joint plan to build a vibrant market for healthcare IT
An initial Joint Plan from the Department of Health Informatics Directorate and industry body Intellect is supporting efforts to create the best conditions for the healthcare IT market to flourish. (Published: 05 January 2012)
This new partnership with Intellect, which represents IT suppliers, was announced on 22 September 2011. A draft Joint Plan, setting out objectives, principles, key initiatives and workstreams, was later published for consultation in November 2011.
Now the first version of the plan has been agreed, incorporating feedback from stakeholders. This is available alongside raw data on systems and services in use within the NHS.
Head of Industry Liaison for the Informatics Directorate Peter Dyke said: "One of the central principles of our plan is to have an open and transparent approach that will help organisations in the NHS to have the right information to make informed decisions about the systems and services available to them in the market."
A number of workstreams will be established to focus on key issues. These include information sharing and governance; standards, requirements and accreditation; and procurement.
