N3 wins Guardian Public Service Award

N3 have won an award at the Guardian Public Service Awards 2011, for their managed video conferencing service. (Published: 29 November 2011)

N3 took the 'Innovation and Progress – Sustainability' category at the awards, now in their eighth year, which cast a spotlight on organisations that have pushed the boundaries of public service delivery.

Programme Director Martin Dennys said: "I'm delighted that N3 has been recognised for its managed videoconferencing service. It was only launched across the NHS late last year but this award demonstrates how, very quickly, the NHS is seeing sustainable benefits and using the service to revolutionise patient care and create greater operational efficiencies."

Programme Head Len Chard said: "The NHS has the largest carbon footprint in the UK, annually generating 21 million tonnes of greenhouse gas equivalent emissions - GHG(e).

"About one-fifth of the NHS's carbon emissions are related to transport, either staff travelling intra-site or because, traditionally, clinical processes require patients and staff to meet face to face.

"N3 managed videoconferencing technology is helping to address that challenge. Now, patients and clinicians can be brought together virtually as can multi-disciplinary team meetings, such as cancer networks or stroke clinics - saving time and travel costs.

"To date, we have helped the NHS avoid 400 tonnes of GHG(e) and deliver total net savings of £2.25 million and this has great potential to rise significantly as more and more NHS organisations take the service."

Operations Director Max Jones added: "This award is fantastic news and supports the position we've been taking on promoting the benefits of VC (and Voice) over N3."
