SNOMED CT approved as common clinical language

The Department of Health has announced that the Information Standards Board for Health and Social Care has approved SNOMED CT as a fundamental standard for a common clinical language across all healthcare settings and organisations. (Published: 16 August 2011)

Paul Jones, Chief Technology Officer for the Department of Health Informatics Directorate, said: "Achieving SNOMED CT as a fundamental standard is an important stage in the delivery of systems that can support patients across all pathways.

"We will be working hard to support all parts of the healthcare system to adopt this important terminology."
