Since the publication of Coding for Success, the Department of Health's Informatics Directorate has worked with GS1 UK to drive adoption of AIDC into the NHS. Currently over 335 hospitals have adopted the coding technology in various areas of care, increasing patient safety while reducing cost.

New guidance is now available to help and advise hospitals adopting AIDC in formulating a business case for procuring a medical document tracking solution, while giving them background on the coding and benefit details from the first of type (FOT) implementation.
