PLIMS supplier informed the trust of delayed delivery of passive and active RFID implementation. Awaiting confirmation of delivery dates from PLIMS supplier.

Nofication received from PLIMS supplier that the 2D barcode service pack cannot be deployed as a patch just in BT.

Activity
PLIMS change of development strategy requires that any updates be applied across the entire pathology system. A new release of the pathology system is to be made available to the trust. However due to concurrent projects and lack of available resources for upgrades a decision was made by the board to defer the system upgrade to coincide the 2D barcode service pack delivery with passive RFID implementation.
Meeting with PLIMS supplier confirms delay of delivery of RFID implementation and raises an issue that more upgrades of the pathology system will be required.
Exception plan presented to the board to progress implementation.
BloodTrack system to be used to produce compatibility labels for whole blood products. New printer and new design compatibility labels to be purchased.
Lessons learned
Identified that blood tracking system cannot currently produce labels for batched products as it does not know they have been issued.

Asset Tracking bluestar attended site to undertake initial testing of patient wandering alarm solution.
BloodTrack Tx Transfusion software installed on mobile cart and Panasonic H1 device. Intial testing undertaken. Requirement functionalities identified and passed back to development.

Testing ubdertaken for validation of compatibility label printing. New version of BloodTrack TX installed on Panasonic H1 device.
Printing of compatibility labels with a 2D barcode from the Blood Tracking system was successful. Issue encountered printing to the printer from the PLIMS system.
Printing from PLIMS to new printer issue resolved.
Meeting held with PLIMS and asset tracking supplier to clarify the statement of requirements for active tracking of the blood bags.

Runtype mismatch reported when selecting the printer within the PLIMS label printing program.

Date set for changeover to new compatibility label.
New date set for changeover of compatibility labels.
Delays experienced due to concurrent projects requiring resources and interruption to services at Mayday due to a fire incident. Tasks rescheduled.
Training documentation being produced which is specific to the installation of BloodTrack at Mayday.
Lessons learned
The changover to new compatibility labels requires testing and validation, updating of all relevant SOPs, training of all BT staff, cascading of information at ward level.
