A programme of work has been established to enhance and develop work already committed to and to identify new solutions to tackle some of the potentially dangerous processes and practices that a technology or technology-rich solution could help make safer.

Areas requiring attention have included:

• management of blood products;
• identification of test results and action taken;
• handover of patients between clinical teams and across organisational interfaces; and;
• implementation of training for clinicians and project and programme managers (for safer IT implementation).
