Our international work
The NHS Classifications Service actively represents the NHS in relationships with international health bodies and has carried out this role for many years.
Our key work streams are:
- To implement the strategic aim to align the NHS with the most up-to-date edition of the NHS information standard released from the World Health Organisation and thereafter implement and maintain a regular updating cycle. The WHO release updates to ICD-10 yearly (minor) and every three years (major) for implementation at national level.
- To provide the UK contribution (for morbidity coding) as part of the WHO-FIC collaborating centre network in which we have been involved in various WHO committees including updating of ICD-10, and education / accreditation.
- With over 15 years experience of creating cross-maps from terminologies to classifications on behalf of the NHS, and as part of the UK Terminology Centre, we are sharing our expertise in this field with the international forum to support the development of international cross mapping from terminologies to classifications.
