Submissions for review of OPCS-4

The portal exists 24/7 for submitting requests for change to the classification, however there is an annual deadline of 1 March every year for submissions to be considered for the following release of OPCS-4.

OPCS-4 Requests Portal

The NHS Classifications Service launched an OPCS-4 Requests Portal to enable you to easily submit change requests for future versions of OPCS-4 online, at any place and at a time that suits you.

The portal also enables users to:

  • track the status of their requests online at any time
  • enter requests as and when they want to
  • easily provide extra information regarding their requests if requested by the authoring team.

We have also improved the tooling infrastructure by commissioning specially-designed software for authoring changes to OPCS-4. The customised software will further contribute to improved quality control during the authoring process of OPCS-4 and continues our commitment to implement lessons learned from previous enhancements of the classification.

From 1 December 2009 submissions process to the chemotherapy regimens will be hosted by Department of Health.

The annual review process

All submissions for change come through to the NHS Classifications Service for review. These are then processed under strict quality guidelines to maintain the integrity and principles of the classification by our classification experts and appropriate colleagues in the NHS.

The submissions are analysed by the clinical coding expertise at the NHS Classifications Service and a report of the findings is presented to the OPCS-4 Editorial Board for consideration at the OPCS-4 Annual Review meeting. The Board membership includes representatives from the NHS Classifications Service, the Casemix Programme and the DH PbR Programme.
