Clinical Coding Academies
NCS Clinical Coding Academies are NHS training services that are accredited by the NHS Classifications Service and offer a range of courses and specialist services as well as being able to support demand for bespoke courses to a range of NHS organisations. Academies represent Centres of Excellence that support the needs of clinical coders; with all courses delivered to the high standards required to support accurate, consistent and complete clinical coding.
Academies are accredited through a rigorous process that involves the lead trainer from NHS Classifications Service as well as an independent professional in the clinical coding domain. Accreditation is through the submission of evidence that demonstrates operation of the training service within a Quality framework of 27 principles. In addition, each Academy must demonstrate active participation with the other Academies in the network and commit resources to develop new provision in collaboration with the other Academies each year.
The Clinical Coding Academies have collaborated to develop a Mental Health Refresher Course. This is being reviewed for endorsement by the NCS ready for delivery by the Clinical Coding Academies from 1 April 2012.
The NHS Classifications Service has accredited three Academies and is now working with interested parties in the West Midlands who are keen to become a Clinical Coding Academy by 1st November 2012.
