Raising a Help desk Query
Before you contact the NHS Data Standards and Products Helpdesk, please attempt to resolve your query by one of the following means:
- Viewing our frequently asked questions
- Searching the NHS Data Model and Dictionary
- Searching other websites or contacting other helpdesks via our useful links
For queries submitted to the NHS Data Standards and Products Helpdesk, please email datastandards@nhs.net. The subject of your email should read 'NHS Data Model and Dictionary Query'. Please include your:
- full name
- job title
- telephone number
- full postal address
- organisation code (if you are an NHS user)
- and a full description of your query with a suggested resolution
NHS Data Model and Dictionary Help Pages
The NHS Data Model and Dictionary has been updated to include 'Help' pages to enable users to:
- learn more about the NHS Data Model and Dictionary
- recognise the NHS Data Model and Dictionary components
- learn how to navigate the product using the different components
- view a short demonstration on each component, followed by three questions to check user understanding
- test your knowledge of the Help pages and the navigation options
- view a presentation on the NHS Data Model and Dictionary Maintenance Process
Please note that:
- Each demonstration includes a voice over and readable captions.
- The content of these demonstrations is for training purposes only and therefore may not match the current content of the NHS Data Model and Dictionary.
All Help pages have a blue background so that they can be clearly identified separately from the NHS Data Model and Dictionary content.

The help pages can be accessed by selecting one of the Help links (as shown below) on the front page of the NHS Data Model and Dictionary at: http://www.datadictionary.nhs.uk/index.asp.
