Business Process Guidance
A guidance document designed to support initial implementers of Release 2 of the Electronic Prescription Service (EPS). The full guidance document is now available to download:
EPS Release 2 - Business Process Guidance for Initial Implementers April 2009 Ref 4427 (PDF, 3.4MB). The Guidance, which has been developed for use by all health care staff working in a primary care setting, covers key prescribing and dispensing business processes. Individual business process sections, which have been taken from the full guidance document, are available to download separately:
- nomination; (PDF, 1.4MB)
- electronic cancellation of prescriptions; (PDF, 688.0kB)
- the use of prescription and dispensing tokens; (PDF, 778.4kB)
- electronic repeat dispensing; (PDF, 540.0kB)
- electronic submission of reimbursement endorsements; (PDF, 1.8MB) and
- troubleshooting (PDF, 1.0MB).
Representatives of the EPS User Group, Pharmaceutical Services Negotiating Committee (PSNC), Department of Health, and a panel of health care professionals from across England have been involved in reviewing the Guidance throughout its development.
It is expected that the Guidance will be of use to a range of stakeholders developing their own communications and supplementary support materials for Release 2 of EPS. System suppliers will also have access to the Guidance to inform the development and delivery of their training products.
An evaluation process is currently being developed for the Guidance document. Your feedback is valuable and will contribute towards the development of updated guidance to support nationwide deployment.
Comments and suggestions on how this guidance can be improved are welcomed. An online feedback and evaluation form will be available here shortly. You can order a copy of the guidance (1 per order).
An e-learning module has also been developed to support EPS Release 2 training.
