Stage 4: EPS operating as 'business as usual'
This stage is concerned with the establishment of EPS as Business as Usual. To enable this, PCTs and the SHA must support EPS to realise benefits for patients, healthcare professionals and the NHS.
PCT Responsibilities
The PCT need to progress deployment and needs to ensure that:
- Local policies and processes are reviewed in light of lessons learnt and the experience from the operation of the Service.
- Benefits of EPS Release 2 are measured, promoted and revisited locally
- Establish 'business as usual' processes (building on existing EPS processes, where appropriate) for:
- Dispensing tokens
- Smartcards
- Service management
- Reviewing of local EPS policies (such as Nomination, Business Continuity) to ensure they remain appropriate ot the use of EPS within the PCT.
- Using the information from Nomination Audit Reports
SHA responsibilities
The SHA has to monitor and support the progress of the PCTs to ensure all PCTs reach Stage 4. It is anticipated that key milestones to achieving this stage will also be monitored to show progress from stage 3 to stage 4.
Success criteria
A PCT is deemed to be operational with EPS Release 2 when the NHS Tracking Database is confirming that:
- Over 50 per cent of GP practices in that PCT are enabled (Business Go live) for EPS Release 2.
- Over 50 per cent of the dispensing contractors have installed and enabled (Business Go Live) their EPS Release 2 system.
- Evidence is in place that the benefits of EPS are being realised in the PCT.
