Using the site

Welcome to Professionalising Health Informatics, or PHI for short. This is a web portal providing a single point of access to Health Informatics professional and personal educational, leadership and managerial development opportunities.

Navigating PHI

  1. As the portal is a sub-section of the NHS CFH website, the top part of the PHI screen displays the NHS CFH banner. The tabs in this banner section are for the NHS CFH site not PHI.
  2. The search option in the top right of the screen is a search facility for the whole of the NHS CFH site: this will show search results for the whole of the NHS CFH site, including PHI.
  3. The left-hand menu shows where PHI sits within the site structure and includes links up and down the content levels, including routes back to the main 'Systems and Services' area and 'Capability and Capacity' sections, as well as the PHI sections and its sub-pages.
  4. Significant content areas are promoted via 'teasers', to bring important material to your attention and 'tease' you through to it. Just click a teaser to reach the content.
  5. The Learning Web has a specific landing page promotional slot.

Using the site

Note that PHI pages purposely do not go into extended detail about a topic; rather, they provide an overview with links to original sources of information on the internet. This means that, as materials are updated, PHI links directly to the latest versions of the material.

Some content on PHI is accessible via more than one menu option (e.g. in the body of the front page and in the left-hand menu). This provides better content promotion and navigation. You will find a number of the items in the landing page box marked 'Hot topics and other helpful content' referenced in that section, as well as in other locations in PHI.

The Learning Web

A key resource within PHI is the 'Learning Web'. Access is via the landing page teaser, or the 'Personal Progression' menu option.

On entering the Learning Web you will see a web-shaped diagram using Phi-friendly mathematical shapes. You will see four options on the diagram addressing different areas of personal and professional development.

Click on any of the four coloured hexagons branching from the central shape: these will take you to the set of options available for that section. From here select the individual topic that you want to view.

The diagram below shows one route through the Learning Web. In this example the user has selected the 'Personal Development' hexagon taking him/her to the blue area of the Learning Web. From this screen, the user has selected 'Career Pathways' taking him/her to the detailed page on this topic.

Getting in touch

The Learning Web has been designed to allow additional sections to be added as and when they are identified.

Your suggestions for additional topics for the Learning Web, and for PHI as a whole, will always be gratefully received, so please contact us.
