NHS Health Informatics Quality Scheme

The NHS Health Informatics Quality Scheme (NHS HIQS) is closed to new applications for recognition since 2009.

The scheme achieved much of what it sought to achieve, having produced a framework within which health informatics courses can be evaluated and which incorporates Health Informatics National Occupational Standards (HINOS). Lessons learnt during the development and implementation of NHS HIQS, in fact helped to inform a recent revision of the HINOS.

An archive copy of the NHS HIQS Guidance to Learning Providers (PDF 127Kb) is available to anyone who wishes to make use of the framework. Similarly, the HINOS are available through the Skills for Health website.

Courses which previously gained recognition under the scheme are able to maintain that status until the end of the agreed period of recognition.
