IT skills development programme

This programme exists to develop the IT skills of NHS staff and the specialist NHS Health Informatics workforce through a range of initiatives.

We offer training materials and tools that support the delivery of the NHS IT Skills Pathway. These provide a common, consistent and transferable standard for the whole of the NHS in England.

The programme covers the following three elements:

  • Essential IT Skills: this gives organisations implementing national IT systems the means to train staff in basic IT skills.
  • IT Skills for Health Informatics workforce: The NHS Microsoft IT Academy provides the NHS Health Informatics workforce with flexible access to Microsoft Technical courses and qualifications.
  • Higher level IT Skills: Higher level IT skills training is available via the NHS Microsoft Office Skills Training (MOST) programme. MOST was established to increase NHS staff productivity when using Microsoft Office applications.
