History of EITS

The Essential IT Skills (EITS) Programme was launched by NHS Connecting for Health (NHS CFH) in March 2008. The programme was made up of learning materials delivered by The University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust, and three formal qualifications. The qualifications, NHS ELITE, NHS Health and the BCS (NHS) Level 1 Award were accredited by the British Computer Society (BCS), The Chartered Institute for IT.

The University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust continue to deliver EITS learning materials, now also including a (non-accredited) certificated post learning assessment. Visit what is EITS for more information about what is now available.

In February 2010 we announced that there would be changes to the EITS programme from 28 February 2011.  All learning materials continue to be provided and developed but there is no longer any funding of the BCS qualification elements of the EITS programme. Centres can purchase formal testing and accreditation of EITS qualifications through the BCS. BCS contact details can be found on the contacts and feedback page.
