How do I set up as an EITS centre?

This section details which NHS organisations and non-NHS organisations are eligible to offer EITS and how they get access.

The EITS Programme is currently centrally funded in England only. However, the Department of Health Informatics Directorate has additional agreements in place with Health and Social Services in Northern Ireland, NHS Education for Scotland and NHS Wales. If you would like access to these materials and you are not employed in the NHS in England please contact the lead for your country using the following details:

NHS organisations

Most NHS organisations can become a centre for the EITS Programme.

EITS qualifications are aimed at clinical staff who use IT systems in the workplace, however any NHS member of staff is eligible for the EITS Programme if they wish to take part in it.

Universities

Any university in England that offers healthcare, health informatics or clinical courses can become a centre for the EITS Programme and can offer the learning and certification to students on these courses.

The EITS Programme is only funded for the NHS in England, however some universities in other home countries may be eligible where there is a high proportion of their intake who are likely to work in the NHS in England in the future.

Further Education colleges

A number of NHS organisations do not have access to training facilities or staff to help to run a centre for the EITS Programme. As a result a number of centres are situated in colleges who have partnered with local NHS organisations in their area.

Likewise, colleges that are offering healthcare or health informatics related course may be eligible to offer the EITS Programme to the students on these courses.
