Touch typing
As a result of a successful touch typing pilot in 2009, a larger pilot was commissioned which ran between November 2009 and June 2010. The pilot included 19 NHS trusts across England and over 950 NHS staff.
A report detailing the output of this pilot provides details of how the pilot was conducted and the outcomes it demonstrated. Also included in the report are comments from user evaluation forms and a range of statistical analyses of the touch typing performance of the participants, pre and post pilot.

As a result of this successful touch typing pilot a three year agreement has been made for NHS Organisations to access free online touch typing learning materials for three years. The self-paced learning materials are available from 01/11/10 to 31/10/13 for an unlimited number of NHS staff from any discipline.
Formal testing is also available in the form of British Computer Society (BCS) levels 1 & 2 in touch typing. When a learner has demonstrated a good level of competency within the learning materials they are able to undertake the formal tests from BCS.
The testing package is not centrally funded and centres need to be BCS approved centres to access the tests. Tests can be purchased directly from the BCS at a reduced NHS price.
