Endorsements

NHSmail is endorsed by the following organisations for the purpose of securely exchanging patient data with other NHSmail and Government Secure intranet (GSi) users:

Endorsed by the British Medical Association (BMA)

"I am pleased to confirm the BMA endorses NHSmail for the exchange of clinical information between NHSmail users"

James Johnson, Chairman of Council, British Medical Association (BMA).

Endorsed by the Royal College of Nursing (RCN):

The RCN has endorsed the use of NHSmail as a means of exchanging clinical information:

a) noting that  it meets BMA requirements for clinical email between NHS organisations and

b) provided that practices meet legal requirements and conform to professional standards. These requirements and standards are reflected in national guidance on information governance and in specific guidance on the use of NHSmail, particularly for maintaining confidentiality at either end of the email communication.

Local organisations may still need to undertake a risk assessment to examine the impact of implementing NHSmail on information governance issues in their NHS community. Results of such assessment, supported by national and local acceptable use policy will ensure that sensitive information remains safe and confidential whilst using NHSmail.

Eirlys Warrington, Chair of Council, Royal College of Nursing (RCN)
