Trusts are currently implementing projects to achieve full conformance with the Safer Practice Notice and Information Standards. This will involve both changes to current working practices and may introduce new protocols to support the complete adoptions of the NHS Number.

This section of the implementation toolkit aims to provide some examples of NHS Number strategies, policies, NHS Number use, tracing and allocation procedures and data quality material to help meet Human Behaviour and Business Process requirements. There are also some practical examples of the use of the NHS Number in Trusts, e.g. referral forms.
