Awards and nominations
The adoption of PACS by all hospital trusts in England has been widely recognised as a great success story for the NHS. It's not surprising, then, that the national PACS programme has won, or been nominated for, a number of awards in recent years.
2010
Most recently, in October 2010, the national PACS programme, along with the Department of Health and supplier Burnbank Systems, won an award for 'Innovation in healthcare interoperability' at the eHealth Insider Awards.
The award recognised the organisations’ work in rolling-out the Image Exchange Portal (IEP), a solution which enables the transfer of images and reports between connected organisations including hospital trusts and independent sector healthcare providers.
2009
The IT@ Networking Awards – run by the European Association of Healthcare Manager - recognises healthcare IT pioneers across Europe.
The national PACS programme was one of the awards finalists drawn from 78 'cutting-edge' organisations and solutions. The programme was recognised for the 'successful roll-out of PACS in England' and for its progress in 'moving forward with image sharing between hospital trusts'.
2007
In 2007 the PACS programme was awarded the title of 'Public Sector Project of the Year' in Computing magazine's Awards of Excellence. The programme was hailed for having "delivered major improvements in public services, or new ways of working that have enabled greater efficiency or cost effectiveness."
Weeks later, the PACS programme gained further recognition at the Healthcare Business Awards. Here, it won an award for the ‘innovative introduction of new technology for storing, retrieving and distributing data throughout the NHS.’
2006
The PACS programme was ‘highly commended’ at the eGovernment national Awards in the ‘Central e-Government excellence: team success’ category.
The award acknowledged “proven team working or partnership activity which has delivered more than the sum of the parts.”
