RIS upgrade success in the North West and West Midlands

Trusts in the North West and West Midlands supplied with radiology information systems (RIS) through the LSP contract with CSC are now enjoying significantly richer, more user-friendly functionality following the roll-out of a major new release dubbed ‘Rowthorne’.

38 trusts across the two regions are using the RIS concerned, from software supplier Healthcare Software Systems.  The final three trusts in the Rowthorne roll-out – in Shropshire and Staffordshire - went live over the weekend of 26 and 27 March, with no major issues being reported.

Trusts use their RIS to manage their workflows within radiology. They are business critical systems which can have a major impact on patient throughputs and waiting times, as well as clinical safety.

Rowthorne has provided the trusts with a significant number of RIS enhancements which are supporting their radiology teams to improve their business processes and overall efficiency. Just as importantly, it’s also providing a foundation for them to add further, optional modules depending on their local requirements and priorities.

Trusts in the south – where PACs and RIS are also now provided through CSC (following the termination of the contract with Fujitsu) – may also benefit from Rowthorne in the months ahead should trusts decide locally to upgrade.
