PMIP guidance

Storing PMIP audit information

We have been approached indirectly by two sites wishing to know if there are any PMIP requirements about the storage of PMIP audit information. The following statement has been produced to clarify the PMIP project position.

The PMIP standards do not include a minimum retention requirement for PMIP audit data although, in these days of cheap disc space, the expectation was that laboratories would choose to retain it.

Clearly if audit data is to be useful it should be kept for at least a few weeks and certainly until all reports are acknowledged as received or as rejected and dealt with.

There is also no requirement included in the PMIP standards to be able to cull audit information. If a site wishes to cull such information we would consider this to be a local decision.

Information on the mandated implementation scope of PMIP in terms of disciplines and investigations to be provided.
This document also provides information on the use of the PMIP standards for disciplines outside of the three mandated (haematology, biochemistry and microbiology) that makes clear that PMIP standards may be used for these disciplines but is not required under LIS target IMT13.

End to End Workshops (NHS net only)
Workshops covering local and national approaches to End to End Testing were run over the period July to September 2003. Topics included SHA strategic view of PMIP, national and local progress, discussion of local experience and sharing of views on how best to run end to end testing. Presentations and feedback from the 5 meetings is presented on this page.

An updated handbook documenting the roles and responsibilities of all parties involved in Pathology Messaging, it is intended to be tailored to reflect local custom and practices. There is also a single page contact sheet which is a short summary of contact details and transmission schedule for both practice and laboratory.
