SCR basics for healthcare staff
Clinical involvement is a key element of Summary Care Record (SCR), from creating and updating the GP Summary contribution in General Practice to viewing the records in primary and secondary care to support clinical care.
It is recommended that each PCT has an SCR clinical lead to support and engage with the wider clinical community and ensure that the implementation supports patients and clinicians.
It is essential that all clinicians are involved in the implementation of the SCR to:
- Support patients in their choices
- Ensure that the clinical benefits are realised for patients and NHS staff
- Provide local knowledge and understand local needs, priorities, culture and processes
- Use their knowledge and experience to identify how and where the SCR can support NHS care
